Portland, Or. : Washington Publishing Co., 1885. FREDERICK CATLIN - Was born in St. Clair county, Illinois, March 11, 1848, and in the following month his parents started for the Pacific Coast. In the spring of 1850 they located on the banks of the Cowlitz river, where our subject received his education. In the fall of 1868 he went to California and commenced farming, but the following spring he returned to Washington Territory, purchased his present farm, situated about three miles above Freeport, Cowlitz county, where he has since lived. Married January 11, 1872, Zelia Laffey, and has a family consisting of Nellie, Fred, Sarah, Frank and Lorena.
