At the age if 14 he went to Stockholm where in worked in dry goods and clothing store until he emigrated to America in 1887, going to Jamestown N.Y. for over a year he worked at "hard labor"; also in a furniture factory, late securing a position as salesman in a clothing store. In 1899 he embarked in the clothing business for himself. In 1890, he married Miss Mary Danielson, who had come to America and to Jamestown with her parents in 1869. In 1908 a self-appointed committee requested Anderson to become candidate for mayor, but he declined and instead approaches Samuel A Carlson, who accepted. While in Jamestown, Mr. Anderson was an occasional contributor to the Swedish weeklies published there, and at different time occupied the post of editor for one or the as emergencies would arise. Both Mr. and Mrs. Anderson had been far from well years. They had made two trips to Sweden in search of medical aid, and in 1917 they moved to Tacoma, hoping that change of climate would be beneficial. Here Mrs. Anderson opened up a clothing store on Broadway and has since moved his business to 1009 Pacific Ave. During the thirty years that Mr. Anderson lived in Jamestown, he was known as a singer, being a member of the choir to the first Swedish Lutheran church, the choral society and other musical organizations. He held the office of trustee of the above-named church for twenty six consecutive years. He was a member of the board of aldermen two years member of the board of education for several years, and identified himself with many civic and humanitarian activities while there. ******************* Submitted to the Washington Bios.
