JACOB PROEBSTEL - Was born in Germany, November 17, 1817, and there resided until 1840 when he with his wife and one child emigrated to the United States, and settled in Clay county, Missouri. In 1852 he crossed the plains to the Pacific Coast, settled in Clarke county, in the first instance in the vicinity of La Camas, whence, in 1856, he came to his present farm on Fourth Plain.
