(Circa 1950s)" "LaRoy Family of Kalama" Edgar David LaRoy Edgar LaRoy and wife Nellie came into Kalama in their houseboat on which they floated in on the high water of 1879 and tied it up at first to the Carlson Opera House and later moved to the corner of Geranium and First Street. A few years later LaRoy took the logs out from under the float and built a lower story which became a general store. After he died Nellie married Ed Cammack and continued the store which was later turned into a confectionery. Later the building burned and a new building built which is now the Town Tavern. LaRoy came west from Sturgeon Bay, Michigan. The family had eleven children: Milton and Wallace died when quite young, Agnes married Hanford Searls; William was killed in an accident; Lewis married Hilda Blank from Iron River, Wisconsin; Earl married Anna Rowland; Floyd married Ollie Hampton; Vern married Mildred Stern; Clarence married Dulcie Clapp; and Tom who never married. Aggie and Hanford had four children: Nellie, Edgar, Esther, and Paul. Nellie married Elias Swift and had two children, Donald and Esther. Donald has a son a and daughter. Esther had a daughter and three sons. Edgar married but had no children. Esther Searles married W. A. Fuller and has a girl and a boy. Paul married Cecil Searles and they have three children; Lois married Dewayne Cooper and has a boy and two girls; Max is married and has three boys and two girls; Mitchell is unmarried; William is unmarried. Lewis and Hilda have five children: Ross B., Edgar D., Paul, Kathryn, and Harold. Ross married Helen Bradford and had Ross Jr., Curtis, Jean, and Brian. Ross Jr. married Darlene Lund of Lacenter and had Darrell, Kirk, Travis, and Sonja. Later Ross separated and married Donna Brewer. Curtis married Sharon Fuller and have Shannon and Heidi. Jean died at age three. Brian married Teresa Youngman and have Shawn, Scott, and Tawnya. Edgar married Rae Houriet and had a daughter Merydythe, who has two sons, Brent and Drake Guthrie. He later married Dorothy Rasmussen and has a daughter Marlene who is married and has a son Tyler Hitzemann. Paul died at an early age. Kathryn married Basil Hobart and has a daughter Carol Sus. Later she married James T. Johnson. Harold married Norene Stewart, they have two children, Christine and Randy. Earl LaRoy and Annie had two children. One died of pneumonia, the other, Ethel, married Eddie Blye. They had two children. Tom is married and has two children, and Barbara is married to Bob Scott and has two children. Floyd LaRoy and Ollie had five children, three of whom survived, Rita, Lyle, and William. Rita married Mort Miller of Rose Valley and they had two sons. Gary was killed in accident and Dee who is married and lives in Tigard. Lyle married Betty and had three children, a son and two daughters. William (or Bill) is married and has two daughters and one son. Vern LaRoy and Mildred had one son Norman, who married and has three sons. Clarence LaRoy and Dulcie has one daughter Vivian who married Elmer Imus of Kalama. They had one daughter Sharon, and she had two daughters. Sharon and one daughter were killed in a river accident. Tom LaRoy never married.
