Sidney Jadiah PIER: His direct line: Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, Levi, Elijah, Amon, Sidney Sidney Jadiah PIER was born February 19, 1845. His mother, Lois died December 31, 1859,when Sidney was 15 years old. He was the youngest. His next older sibling, Pheba, was ten years his senior. His only brother was 12 years older than he. Probably Seldon, his brother, went to war; he was 28 when the Civil War started. Sidney joined the 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Company K, on December 21, 1863, when he was still 18. He was described as 6 feet tall, fair, with blue eyes. He was hospitalized at Washington D.C. for "remittent fever" and when he recovered he was wounded and returned to the hospital. After the war, Sidney married Emma H. Peer and the couple lived briefly in Illinois, and then in Irvington, Kossuth County, Iowa. Emma was born August 22, 1844, and died in childbirth on November 18, 1874, in Irvington, Iowa, at the age of 30. Sidney later married Dorothea Buckholz, and the family moved to Chehalis, Washington, where he homesteaded a farm at Boistfort Mountain. He died there April 6, 1906.
