About the Color Guard

The following photos were contributed by Junel Davidson, with photo credits to Susie Meyers. Following the luncheon at Monticello Hotel on November 24, 2002, everyone paraded over to the park where the commemoration ceremony was held. These pictures were taken during that ceremony.

The Color Guard is made up of members of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. This group was the official Color Guard for the Washington Territorial Sesquicentennial (1853-2003), and participated in a number of Washington Territorial Sesquicentennial Events in 2002-2003.

The Color Guard displayed two flags at Washington Territorial Sesquicentennial Events. The green flag is the "Washington Territorial Sesquicentennial" flag. This flag was commissioned by the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War from their own funds with authorization from the Secretary of State's office. There never was a Washington Territory flag, so this flag is very special.

The U.S. flag used was the flag of that period, with 33 stars. A close-up of this flag was provided by Jeff Henningfield.
