W. Jenkins residence at Pleasant Hill Wednesday climbed to two today. Jenkins, 59, died in a local hospital early this morning, less than 24 hours after his wife had expired. A double funeral service will be held for the couple at the First Presbyterian Church in Kelso Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the family plot at the Kelso IOOF cemetery. The fire occurred shortly after Jenkins and his wife, Ellen, 61, had arisen Wednesday morning. It apparently started in the ceiling adjacent to the chimney, and spread with lightning speed through the small frame house situated just off the Pacific Highway in the suburban Pleasant Hill district. Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins were rescued from the burning house by neighbors and were rushed to local hospitals suffering from severe burns. Mrs. Jenkins was born in Michigan and came to Kelso in 1907. She was married to Jenkins in 1917. Survivors are a son; Robert, with the air forces at Ogden Utah, and a sister, Mrs. Frank Weeks in Michigan. Jenkins was born in Cowlitz County and made his home in this region throughout his life. His survivors, in addition to the son, are his mother, Mrs. Belle Jenkins of Kelso and a brother Ray of Corvalis.
