Barber of 1333 Mount Pleasant Road died Jan. 8, 1988, in a local nursing home at the age of 84. He was born May 16, 1903, in Portland and was a lifelong resident of the local area. Mr. Barber graduated from Kelso High School in 1922 and was the third generation to live on the family ranch, where he raised Herefords. He was a retired employee of the Cowlitz County Road Department and loved to fish, hunt and travel. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Barber, at home; three daughters, Darlene Barskett of Vancouver, Phyllis Kerr of Olympia and Jocile Welch of Kelso; a son, Rodney Neumann of Molalla, Ore; a sister, Dorothy Burton of Seattle; a niece Barbara Stone of Seattle, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Private family services were held Monday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with George Bales officiating. McVicker’s Chapel on the Hill was in charge of arrangements.
