Pekin Rd., Woodland, who died Friday enroute in an ambulance to a Longview hospital after suffering an attack of undetermined cause while at work. Blum was doing inspection work at the Longview “Y” job when the attack struck. He was born Apr. 25, 1901 in Portland, and had lived in Woodland 38 years. For the past eight years he has been an engineer and head inspector for the Washington State Highway Department. Blum was a past patron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 153 of Woodland and a member of the Woodland Masonic Lodge No. 217, Longview Chapter No. 55 of Royal Arch Masons, Cowlitz Commandery No. 29 of Knights Templar, Cowlitz Council No. 24 Royal and Select Masters, Afifi Temple Shrine of Tacoma, Columbia River Shrine Club of Longview, a charter member of the Southwest Washington Patrons Club, and a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Woodland. He is survived by his wife, Elma, Woodland; a son, Charles at Washington State College; three brothers, Bill and Fred, both of Woodland, and Henry of Astoria. The Rev. Lee Andrews officiated at the 1:30 Presbyterian Church service, and Woodland Masonic Lodge conducted a memorial service. Private committal was at Memorial Crematory in Portland.
