OBITUARY Submitted by: Harlene Soper Brown, Source: "Kelsonian" newspaper, Saturday, October 23, 1920 TWO WELL KNOWN CITIZENS GO TO REWARD J. W. Huntington Had Lived in County 67 Years George W. Taylor Was Civil War Veteran Two of the best known residents of Cowlitz county were called to their reward Wednesday when Jas. W. Huntington of Shanghai, who had been a resident of this county for the past 67 years, passed away at his Shanghai home, and George W. Taylor, former justice of the peace, succumbed at the Soldiers' Home, Orting, Washington. James Walter Huntington, popularly known as "Walt" by his host of friends throughout Cowlitz county, was born at Nashville, Indiana, March 1, 1849, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Huntington, pioneers of this county. He passed away October 20th, aged 71 years, 7 months and 19 days. When he was four years old his parents crossed the plains, stopping in Oregon one year and then removing to the Shanghai section of Cowlitz county. There Mr. Huntington has continued to reside during the 67 intervening years. In November, 1866, he and Susan B. Moulton were united in marriage. The union was a most happy one, and his life companion of 54 years mourns his demise, as do four children: Mrs. Ethel Thwing of Kalama, Mrs. Margaret Heaward, Roy Huntington of Shanghai, and Mrs. Vivian Jabusch, Shanghai, and several grandchildren. Three sisters also survive, his brother Dorsey Huntington, having preceded him to the Great Beyond only a few weeks ago. Mr. Huntington's long life in this county was one of much activity and he was a leader in community affairs. Funeral services were held this morning at Shanghai, where burial was made. Rev. F. A. Andrews of Kalama conducted the service.
