OBITUARY - SARAH (CLARK) NIMMO and HELEN (CLARK) BONG Submitted by: Vikki, VGDriver1 at aol dot com Source: "Lewis River News," Woodland, Cowlitz Co., WA, Thursday, 14 May 1959 Two WHS Grads killed in a plane crash after attending funeral of father Two sisters attending their father's funeral in Woodland Saturday morning met their own deaths that afternoon in a homeward bound private plane which struck a power line crossing the Umpqua River near Reedsport, Ore. about 4 p.m., killing the pilot and five passengers. The victims were Mrs. Sarah Nimmo of Reedsport, and Mrs. Helen Bong, and her husband Olaf of Fort Bragg, Calif. The two sisters were both graduates of Woodland High School, Mrs. Nimmo in 1943 and Mrs. Bong in 1938. Mrs. Nimmo had lived in the Woodland area 20 years, and Mrs. Bong for 23 years. They had attended the 10:30 a.m. Saturday funeral service for their father, Lawrence Clark. The plane was flown by William Rogers of Longview. Mrs. Nimmo is survived by her husband, Everett and a son and daughter. Both are survived by their sisters, Mrs. Marion Fleetwood of Hayes route, Woodland, and Mrs. Alice Townsend of Longview. The service for Mrs. Nimmo will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ditlersen-Moore Chapel in Kelso, with burial at Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens in Kelso. The Bongs' funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Vancouver Funeral Home, with Burial at Highland Cemetery.
