OBITUARY: BENNIE HOWARD ARMSTRONG Submitted by: Leona Johnson, bell_crazy2000 -at- yahoo.com Source: "The Cowlitz County Advocate", Cowlitz Co., Washington. 1 Mar 1951 Bennie Howard Armstrong, 41, was a victim of the fire that destroyed the home of Mrs. Hattie Corrie early Sunday morning. He was born at Castle Rock, August 14, 1909, and spent his entire life here. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and in the Italian campaign. He was employed at the Port of Longview. He leaves three brothers, Frank of Castle Rock, James of Sheridan, Ore. and Ray of Longview; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Keller of Portland, and Mrs. Ellen Bass of Milwaukie. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the chapel of the Hubbard Funeral Home, with Rev. Wendell Small officiating. The hymns were sung by Rev. Ernest Moore. Burial was in the family plot in the Whittle cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by members of the Longview-Kelso National Guard unit. The pallbearers, National Guard members, were Pvt. Maynard Brent, Pfc. Robert Reynolods, Pvt. Charles Hoober, Pvt. Bill D. Lane, Pvt. Vernon Dykstra and Pvt. Bill Musk. The Hubbard funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
