OBITUARY: HOWARD COLUMBUS BOZARTH Submitted by: Leona Johnson, bell_crazy2000 -at- yahoo.com Source: "The Longview Daily News", Cowlitz Co., Washington. 28 Apr 1939 Howard Columbus Bozarth, 86, first white child born on the Lewis river and a life-long resident of Cowlitz county, died Thursday afternoon at his home here. Bozarth was the grandson of Squire and Milly Bozarth, who settled here in 1845, and the son of John S. and Asenith Bozarth, who took up a donation land claim here in 1851 and on which he was born, Mar. 22, 1853. He served one term as county assessor about 40 years ago. His wife died in 1901. Bozarth was one of a family of 10 children, three of whom are still living. They are Mrs. A.B. King, A.H. Bozarth and J.R. Bozarth, all of Woodland. The deceased also is survived by four children, Mrs. Lela Barr and John I. Bozarth of Woodland, Mrs. Violet Ahlf of Grants Pass, Ore., and Mrs. Lena Christenson of Aberdeen; by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church. The Rev. James F. Faucett will officiate, with interment to be in the Woodland I.O.O.F. cemetery. The Reardon funeral home of Kelso is in charge of arrangements.
