Was born in Indiana in 1815; went to Iowa in 1835, and lived there until coming to Oregon; after his arrival in this State he settled in Yamhill County on a donation claim. Moved to McMinnville a few years since. He was appointed sheriff by Governor Lane during the Territorial Government, and was elected for two terms afterwards, and has served six sessions in the Legislature.
