PATTERSON Mr. Patterson first saw the light in Dearborn county, Indiana, June 19, 1824. Here he was raised and educated. He came from his native place overland to Oregon in 1853, settling in Eugene City about October thirty-first of that year. He engaged in mercantile pursuits for about ten years, then followed various occupations until he was appointed postmaster at Eugene City, July 1, 1869, which office he has held to the present writing. He is one-fourth owner in the Eugene City flouring mills, his partners being J. G. Gray, Wm. Edris and G. W. Swift. He was selected from among his compeers and elected to the State assembly in 1858.
