Coming to Oregon in 1844 he wintered first at Waiilatpu, Dr. Whitman's station, and removed the next year to Oregon City and soon after to Dallas. Here he resided until 1877, farming. Was sheriff of Polk County under the Provisional Government, and again after the territory was organized. Studied law and became an attorney, and was clerk of Polk County for one term. Married Miss Sarah Ann Gilliam in 1850. Mr. Nichols now resides in Wasco County, which he has represented in the Legislature. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
