Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 200. CHARLES H. CRONER Among the younger business men of the Willamette Valley none has a more enviable record than Charles H. Croner, a successful druggist of Oakridge, who has attained a place among the leading merchants there. Mr. Croner was born in Eugene, Oregon, on the 1st of February, 1896, and is a son of George H. and Alice M. Croner, also natives of Eugene. His grandparents in both the paternal and maternal lines crossed the plains and settled in the Willamette Valley in the '50s. George H. Croner was educated in the Eugene public schools, and was employed on construction work in that city for a number of years. He was appointed a member of the police force, serving for twelve years, and then was appointed deputy sheriff, and later chief deputy sheriff, of Lane comity, in which capacities he was employed about eight years. His death occurred in 1923. Charles H. Croner attended the Eugene public and high schools and then entered the University of Oregon, where he continued three years, when his studies were interrupted by his enlistment for service in the World war. He spent fourteen months overseas, being honorably discharged, March 10, 1919. On his return to Eugene, Mr. Croner secured employment in a drug store, where by hard work and close study he learned the business. In 1921 he passed the state examination and became a registered pharmacist. In April, 1924, he came to Oakridge and opened a drug store, the first and only drug store in the town, and has here met with very satisfactory success. He carries a full line of pure drugs, standard proprietary remedies, toilet articles, sundries, photographic supplies and radiolas, and has a well arranged store, in which his goods are displayed to advantage. In June, 1924, Mr. Croner was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Tibbetts, of Eugene. He is a member of Eugene Lodge, No. 357, B. P. 0. E., and the American Legion, was a charter member of the Lions Club of Eugene and while in the university became a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Courteous and accommodating in his relations to the trade and genial and friendly in all his social relations, he has won many friends since coming to Oakridge and is held in high esteem throughout the community. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
