     Born in Lancaster District, South Carolina, February 11, 1818; came to
Oregon and lived at various times in Clackamas, Marion, and Lane counties prior
to settling in Harrisburg, where he is now engaged in the hardware business. Was
married in 1834, and his wife died in 1874, leaving him one child, named James
F. He married again in 1875 to Almira Cummens .
