Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 121. DONALD A. YOUNG The legal profession in Salem has a worthy exponent in Donald A. Young, one of the leaders among the younger members of the bar, and his success since locating here has won him many warm admirers in city and county. Mr. Young was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on the 31st of January, 1894, and is a son of Edward F. and Mary Ann (Springer) Young. The father died in Minnesota and the mother subsequently went to Portland, Oregon, where she now resides. Donald A Young received a good preliminary education in the public schools of Minneapolis, and then entered the law department of the University of Minnesota, where he was graduated in 1917. In that year he enlisted in the Engineers Corps of the United States Army, from which he was later transferred the Signal Corps, and finally to the air service, in which he served until receiving his honorable discharge, in March, 1919, with the rank of first lieutenant. On his return to civil life he engaged in the practice of law in Minneapolis, where he remained until 1921, when he went to Portland, Oregon, and in the following year came to Salem as attorney for the World War Veterans' State Aid Commission. He also engaged in the private practice of law, specializing in corporation and real property law. He gained quick recognition as an able and efficient attorney, meeting with marked success in the handling of his cases. He now enjoys a large practice and has been connected as counsel with a number of important cases in the courts of this county. On December 1, 1920, Mr. Young was united in marriage to Miss Opal Van Delinder of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He gives his political support to the republican party and is a Scottish Rite Mason; a Noble of the Mystic Shrine, a member of the American Legion, and of the Country Club and the Chamber of Commerce. A man of unquestioned motives, sincere utterance and cordial manner, he has won an enviable place in the estimation of all who know him. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
