LAKIN Was born in Putnam county, Ohio, March 28, 1837, but at two years of age was taken by his parents to Marshall county, Ills., where he resided until 1852, when the family crossed the plains to Oregon and located near Eugene City, Lane county, where he followed the occupation of a farmer for some time. During nine years subsequently Mr. Lakin was engaged in the business of manufacturing saddle-trees in Eugene City, and in that time had removed his family to a farm he had acquired in the vicinity, while in 1872 he purchased the livery stable he now conducts at the corner of Ninth and Willamette streets.
