FRANK BRUNNER One of the prosperous fruit raisers of Lane county is Frank Brunner, who has become not only a leader in that line here but also does a large business as a fruit dryer. He has shown a spirit of marked enterprise and owns a valuable and well improved property. Mr. Brunner was born in Germany and is a son of Joseph and Mary (Klingle) Brunner, both of whom died in that country during the World war. Frank Brunner secured his education in the public schools of his native land, where he remained until he had attained his majority, when he came to the United States. He first located in Iowa, where he bought two hundred and forty acres of land and engaged in grain farming and stock-raising for about thirty years. He has his land all in fruit, consisting mostly of prunes, cherries and walnuts, of which he secures good crops, and since locating here he has built a fine, modern home. Mr. Brunner has also for several years been engaged in drying fruit, having erected his own dryer, with a capacity of forty-eight tons of green prunes. During the busy season, lasting about five weeks, he employs from eighteen to twenty men and has all the work in that line that he can handle. In 1903, Mr. Brunner was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Thoni, a native of Switzerland and a daughter of M. and Bertha Thoni, both of whom died in that country. Mrs. Brunner came In the United States to live with a sister. To Mr. and Mrs. Brunner have been born four children, namely: Ernest, who is associated with his father in the operation of the home place; Helen, who resides at home; Francis J., who is attending school in Portland; and Margaret, who is in high school at Eugene. Mr. Brunner is a member of the Eugene Fruit Growers' Association, the Oregon Fruit Growers and the Lane County Prune Growers.
