"An Illustrated history of Baker, Grant, Malheur and Harney Counties : with a brief outline of the early history of the state of Oregon." Chicago?: Western Historical Pub. Co., 1902. Page 595. Malheur County. FRANK D. STARK This well known and estimable stockman and agriculturist of lower Willow creek, is one of Malheur county's prosperous and enterprising citizens and has a fine estate of two hundred and forty acres one mile southeast from Dell, where the family home is at present. Mr. Stark was born in Franklin county, Kansas, on August 31, 1869, being the son of James S. and Marietta (Cannon) Stark. While a child the family removed to Cherokee county, Kansas, and there he attended the public school, acquiring a good education. In 1880 the father sold his possessions in that country and came across the plains with the family, being one of a train of twenty wagons. There were six children in the family, including our subject, and they came via Kelton and Boise, and the father selected the place where our subject now lives, which is one of the fine places on the creek. Our subject purchased it from his father and now owns two hundred and forty acres of fine land. He has abundance of water for irrigation, a fine seven-room house, good barn, out-buildings and other improvements, such as an orchard and so forth. Mr. Stark has also a fine band of cattle and horses and a number of swarms of bees. Mr. Stark takes great interest in the educational advancement of the country and labors assiduously for it, as also for all lines of progress. The marriage of Mr. Stark and Miss Belle, daughter of Mathias and Alice Olk, of Dell, was celebrated on August 30, 1894, and they have been blessed by the advent of three children, Sybil E., Gerald D. and Homer. Mr. Stark is a good specimen of what may be called a wide-awake progressive and enterprising westerner and demonstrates what can be accomplished here by care, good management, industry and business ability, having accumulated his holdings by his own efforts entirely and has placed himself among the prominent property holders of the county. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
