Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 290. FREDERICK E. ADAMS, M. D. Among the leading and most distinguished members of the medical profession in Eugene, Lane county, stands Dr. Frederick E. Adams, who commands in large measure public confidence and esteem. He was born in Roseburg, Oregon, in 1880, and is a son of Matthew and Serena (Sutherland) Adams, the former of whom was a native of Kentucky and the latter of Indiana, though their marriage occurred in Oregon. Both are now deceased. In the paternal line the Doctor is descended from the same family from which sprang John Quincy Adams. His father crossed the plains to California during the historic gold rush of 1849 and took twenty-two thousand dollars worth of gold out of that state. He then came to Oregon and took up a tract of government land near Roseburg, where he created a good farm and there spent his remaining years. The mother crossed the plains with her parents in 1850. After securing a good elementary education in the public schools, Frederick E. Adams entered the Oregon Agricultural College, at Corvallis, where he was graduated in 1906, with the degree of Bachelor of Science. He then matriculated in the medical school of the University of Oregon, where he received the degree of doctor of medicine in 1911. He served as interne in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland and then engaged in the practice of medicine in that city in partnership with Dr. A. E. McKay. One year later he went to Harrisburg, this state, where he practiced six years in partnership with Dr. Dale. In the spring of 1918 Dr. Adams enlisted in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy, and was commissioned a first lieutenant, being assigned to transport duty. He crossed the Atlantic eight times and at the close of the war was honorably-discharged. He then came to Eugene and has since been actively engaged in the practice of medicine, specializing in obstetrics and diseases of women. He is a member of the medical staff of the Pacific Christian Hospital and is chief of the staff of Mercy Hospital. On June 26, 1909, Dr. Adams was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Hanson, of Portland, and they are the parents of two children, Frederick and Katherine. The Doctor is a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Modern Woodmen of America, as well as the Chamber of Commerce. He maintains professional affiliation with the Lane County Medical Society, the Willamette Valley Medical Society, the Oregon State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He has been successful in material affairs and is the owner of a fine nut ranch near Eugene, where he has a comfortable and attractive home. He is a man of high ideals, is true to the essential ethics of his profession and has gained wide recognition as an able and trustworthy physician, as well as a worthy citizen of his community. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
