Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 81. G. E. PRIME, M. D. Dr. G E. Prime is widely recognized as one of the leaders in the medical profession in Salem, where he commands a large practice, and has also been active in the promotion of other interests of this section of the state. He was born in Edison. Furnas county, Nebraska, on the 5th of February, 1888, and is a son of W. F. and Cora May (Rohr) Prime. The family came to Oregon in 1910, locating in Marion county, and the parents are now residing in Salem. Dr. Prime secured his elementary education in the public schools of his native state and soon after coming west entered the medical school of the University of Oregon, where he was graduated, with the degree of Doctor of Medicine, in 1915. He served as interne at the County hospital in Portland and then engaged in the practice of medicine in that city. Six months later he went to The Dalles, Oregon, where he remained one year, after which he was at Falls City, this state, until 1918, when he accepted a commission as first lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the United States Army. He was sent overseas, where he served for a short time in Medical Replacement Unit No. Thirty-five, and was then transferred to Tours as assistant attending surgeon at that place, and acted in that capacity until March 8, 1919, when he was honorably discharged. He then located in Salem, where he has continued in the practice of his profession to the present time. While conducting a general practice, he specializes in surgery and urology, in both of which he is regarded as an expert. He has a well equipped office and his practice has grown steadily since locating here. In 1917 Dr. Prime was united in marriage to Miss Velma Miller, who was born and reared at Falls City, Polk county, Oregon, and they are the parents of two children, Glenn E., Jr., aged six years, and Mary Jean, aged four. Dr. Prime is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the American Legion, the Illihee Country Club, and the Salem Rod and Gun Club, of which he was the first president, serving two years, 1925-6, during which period he built up the membership to about five hundred. The Doctor is an expert trap shooter, having won the grand handicap trophy, the first prize, at the first annual state fair shoot, held at Salem in 1925. He is a member of the Marion County Medical Society, the Oregon State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. Politically he is nominally a democrat but is independent in his voting, supporting the men and measures that in his judgment will most greatly contribute to the public welfare. He has prospered in his material affairs and owns two farms in Yamhill and Lincoln counties, respectively. Personally, he is cordial and friendly, enjoys the companionship of his friends, and is extremely popular throughout the community. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
