SMITH One of the highly esteemed members of the Salem bar, as well as one of his community's public-spirited citizens, is Guy 0. Smith, who has spent his entire life in this locality. He was bom in Salem on the 24th day of July, 1882, and is a son of Paul A. and Susie A. (Higgins) Smith. His mother is a native of Polk county, this state, and a daughter of Seldon Higgins, who came to Oregon in 1851 and took up a donation claim in Polk county, where he engaged in farming during the remaining years of his life. The mother is now living with a daughter in Marion county. Guy 0. Smith secured his elementary education in the public schools of Polk county and entered the law school of Willamette University, where he was graduated in 1910. He also took five years in addition to his law course in the college of liberal arts in Willamette University. He at once entered upon the practice of his profession in Salem and during the subsequent years has commanded his full share of the legal business of the community. He has had a splendid record at the bar, proving himself a reliable and trustworthy counselor, and in the trial of causes a warrior worthy of any foeman's steel. On June 10, 1914, Mr. Smith was united in marriage to Miss Theresa Cassidy, of Minnesota, and they are the parents of three children, Lawrence, aged twelve years, Robert, aged ten and James, aged two years, Mr. Smith is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Knights of the Maccabees and the Artisans, and also belongs to the Marion County Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar Association. He is a republican in his political views and takes an active interest in public affairs, though he has never been an aspirant for office. He has been financially successful and is the owner of several good farms in Polk and Marion counties. A man of great force of character and upright in all the relations of life, he commands the unqualified confidence of all who have been associated with him and is looked upon as one of the representative men of his community. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
