Went direct to Polk County with his father, Alexander McNary, and took a donation claim near Eola. His occupations have been stock-raising and farming. In the interest of the former pursuit he spent seventeen years following 1859 in Eastern Oregon and Washington Territory, returning to Polk County in 1876. Was county commissioner of Klickitat County for four years. Married, in April, 1854, Miss Catherine Frizzell.
