"An Illustrated history of Baker, Grant, Malheur and Harney Counties : with a brief outline of the early history of the state of Oregon." Chicago?: Western Historical Pub. Co., 1902. Page 625. Malheur County. JEREMIAH BROSNAN In the south part of the Emerald Isle, in County Kerry, was born the subject of this article about thirty-seven years ago. Mr. Brosnan was reared on a farm and in 1883 bade farewell to the scenes of childhood and cast his lot with the fortunes of the new world across the sea. He landed in Castle Garden all right, then came direct to the regions of the west, Boise, Idaho, being the first place for operations. Later we find him on lower Willow creek and with true grit and activity he was soon engaged in handling cattle on the range. For some time he continued this work for wages and then rented land for himself and engaged in raising cattle on his own responsibility. Success attended the wise and industrious efforts put forth on his part, and he soon rose to be one of the prosperous stockmen of Malheur county. In June, 1898, he bought the place where he now resides, ten miles west from Ontario, having a quarter section on the Malheur river. It is well improved, has a good supply of water, is provided with good and comfortable building, and is conducted in a skillful manner. Mr. Brosnan raises an abundance of alfalfa for stock purposes and he has a fine band of cattle. The happy marriage of Mr. Brosnan and Miss Fannie Burns, also a native of Ireland, was celebrated on March 7, 1892, and they have been blessed by the advent of three children, Maggie E., Fannie H., Thomas J. In Mr. Brosnan we have one of the finest exemplifications of what a man of pluck, industry, and ability can do in this country. He landed in Castle Garden with no more than fifty cents and he has made his way from that time to this by his own efforts of enterprise, having gained his present fine holding solely by his own labors, which he has bestowed with wisdom, as the returns show, and have been carried on with untiring zeal for the accomplishment of the good purpose of gaining a competence for himself and his family and he now has not only a fine rural home, but is among the leading stockmen of the county. Mr. Brosnan is also highly thought of by all who know him, being a man dominated by sound principles and wisdom. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
