JOHN CHAPMAN

     A view of whose valuable farm and residence will be found in this work, is
a native of Gallia county, Ohio, born August 15, 1825.  He was married April 23,
1850, to Miss Martha A. Eells.  In 1854 crossed the plains and came direct to
Douglas county and in that year located on his present farm, situated on the
banks of the North Umpqua river nineteen miles east of Roseburg where he is
engaged in general farming and stock raising.
