JAMES HUDDLESTON Was born in Fayette county, Virginia, October 15, 1822, where he received his education and resided until 1850. On the twenty-second day of March of that year, in the company of Capt. A. P. Ankeny, of Portland, he started to cross the plains to California, but the feed falling short on that route they changed their minds and proceeded to Oregon where he arrived October 2, 1850. In the following April, Mr. Huddleston proceeded to the Yreka mines and worked for six weeks, when having been taken sick, he returned to Oregon and in July, 1851, located in Eugene City where he has since resided. He engaged in mercantile pursuits until 1854, when he went on his present farm.
