JAMES McBRIDE Born in Tennessee about the year 1801; resided for a time in Springfield, Missouri; emigrated to Oregon in 1845; settled upon a farm in Yamhill County, but about 1870 removed to St. Helens, Columbia County. He was a physician, but did not practice much in the latter half of his life. Was United States Minister to the Hawaiian Kingdom from 1863 to 1866. Was the father of fourteen children, some of whom have attained distinction. Died in St. Helens, December 18, 1875. The doctor was one of the most prominent and useful men of the early days, and left a large fund of endearing recollections to posterity. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
