His father took him to Huntington county, Indiana, when he was about sixteen years old, and here he was raised to manhood and received his education. He emigrated to California in 1853, locating in Nevada City, where he resided until 1858, when he came to Lane county, but only remained two years, returning to California. We next find him in Idaho; thence to Eugene City, Oregon, where he has since lived. He commenced the undertakers' business in 1874, and in 1883 added the furniture trade, and is now located on the corner of Willamette and Seventh streets.
