McKellip, who is engaged in the drug business in Harrisburg, is well and favorably known throughout this section of the valley and has long been recognized as a citizen of high ideals and sound principles, lending his influence and efforts to the progress and development of his community. Born in Junction City, Lane county, on the 23d of October, 1891, he is a son of William E. and Savannah F. (Gilmore) McKellip. His mother was born in Harrisburg and is a daughter of Nathan Gilmore, who was a pioneer of this state and owned the first Hotel Arlington at Harrisburg. William E. McKellip, who was a native of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, came to Oregon in an early day and followed the painting business throughout his active life, his death occurring in 1921. L. E. McKellip secured his education in the public schools and was first employed as a clerk in a drug store, with which business he has been identified ever since. For a number of years he has owned a drug store in Harrisburg, carrying a good line of drugs and proprietary remedies, as well as the usual auxiliary lines to be found in an up-to-date drug store. He gives careful attention to prescriptions and his prompt and courteous attention to his customers has gained for him a large and representative trade. In 1917 Mr. McKellip was united in marriage to Miss Norma E. Holt, who is a native of Linn county and a daughter of D. C. Holt, a pioneer druggist of Harrisburg. Mr. McKellip is a member of Thurston Lodge, No. 28, A. F. & A. M., which was chartered on September 19, 1860, and of which he was master in 1918-19, since which time he has served as secretary with the exception of one year. He also belongs to Portland Consistory, A. A. S. R.; Hillah Temple, A. A. 0. N. M. S., of Ashland; and to the Pacific Woodmen and the Artisans. An active republican in his political alignment, he served four years as city recorder and is now president of the city council. He belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and is regarded as one of Harrisburg's most public-spirited and influential citizens. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
