Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 287. L. E. WALTON L. E. Walton, who is the owner of a prosperous drug business and is now serving as mayor of Harrisburg, is a native of Linn county, born in 1867, and a son of Isaac M. and Harriet (Sylvester) Walton. His mother was born in Worcestershire, England, from which country she was brought to the United States when three years old. Isaac M. Walton was born in Cumberland, Kentucky, and in 1849 crossed the plains to California, where he remained a short time and then came to Oregon. In 1852 he returned to California, locating at Sacramento, where he remained three years, at the end of which time he again came to Oregon and bought a tract of land two and a half miles north of Halsey, Linn county, where he developed a good farm and there spent his remaining years, dying in 1886. He was survived many years by his widow, who passed away in 1917. L. E. Walton secured his early education in the public and high schools and attended the University of Oregon two years. He then entered the medical school of the same university, attending one year, when he entered the drug business at Eugene, which engaged his attention about three years. For a few years he operated a farm, but again engaged in the drug business at Eugene for a few years, when he sold out there and opened a drug store in Halsey, which he ran for fourteen years. Selling that store in 1924, he came to Harrisburg and bought a drug business, which he has conducted to the present time. He has an up-to-date store in all of its appointments and commands a large patronage throughout this locality. He still owns the old homestead farm north of Halsey. On January 13, 1918, Mr. 'Walton was united in marriage to Miss Ann Creighton, of Missoula, Montana. Politically he is a loyal republican and has always maintained a deep interest in local public affairs, having served as mayor of Halsey and is the present incumbent of that office in Harrisburg. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in which he has taken the degrees of the encampment, and belongs to the Daughters of Rebekah and the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce. A man of forceful individuality and sterling worth, he commands the respect and good will of his fellowmen. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios. Project in June 2016 by Diana Smith.
