Lockley, Fred. "History of the Columbia River Valley, From The Dalles to the Sea." Vol. 3. S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1928. p. 383. LAURIE PAUL LIND, M. D. On the roster of Portland's physicians and surgeons is found the name of Dr. Laurie Paul Lind, one of the younger members of the profession, who, however, is rapidly forging to the front owing to his comprehensive familiarity with the medical science and his ability in meeting the demands of the hour. The Doctor was born in Chicago, July 12, 1900, and was a lad of ten years when his parents, Charles and Ida Lind, removed to Portland, where the father became known as one of the leading tailors here. Later he and his wife established their home in Warren and then in St. Helens. Spending his youthful days under the parental roof, Dr. Lind attended the public schools, pursuing the work of the grades in Warren and his high school course at St. Helens. In the fall of 1918 he entered the Oregon Agricultural College, in which he continued a student until 1921. Later he enrolled in the medical school of the University of Oregon, winning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1924, and his professional degree in 1925. The following year he served as interne in the Letterman General Hospital of San Francisco, which is under control of the United States army, and during that year he took postgraduate work in the University of California. In the fall of 1926 he opened an office at 1051 Hawthorne avenue, where he is still located, and in the intervening period has built up an excellent practice. Since the 1st of January, 1928, he has been on the staff of the City Emergency Hospital and he is also an instructor in surgery at the free dispensary and teaches first aid at the Boy Scout Camp No. 8 at Twelfth and Belmont streets. Dr. Lind belongs to Base Hospital Unit, Medical Reserve, with the rank of first Lieutenant, and while attending the Oregon Agricultural College he was a member of the Students Army Training Corps. He is on the staff of physicians and on the examining board of Camp No. 77 of the Woodmen of the World. Dr. Lind married Miss Charlotte Stockenberg, of Vancouver, Washington, and they now have a little daughter, Beverly Lucille. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
