     Born in Ohio in 1820; moved to Indiana when eight years old; and later to
Illinois.  In 1844 left for Oregon, coming by ox-train, and landed in Tualatin
County.  Occupation, farmer and blacksmith, residing in Hillsboro, Washington
County.  Was married in 1847 to Mary McWilliams.  Their children's names are --
Sarah J., Robert S., William E., Lucy E., Edward W., Ralph A., and John M.
