"An Illustrated history of Baker, Grant, Malheur and Harney Counties : with a brief outline of the early history of the state of Oregon." Chicago?: Western Historical Pub. Co., 1902. Page 509. Grant County. NAPOLEON B. NEAL Among the many stockmen an agriculturists that are making the hills of Grant county yield wealth to their skill in rearing stock and tilling the soil, mention should be made in these chronicles of the enterprising and industrious gentleman, whose name initiates this paragraph. A native of the occident, he has steadily pursued his course here considering that the boundless resources of the west were more favorable for advancement than the congested centers of the east. In Marion county, on April 21, 1856, he was born to William and Mahala (Parker) Neal, and in that county he passed the first years of his childhood and there and in Grant county he received his education from the public schools. He assisted his father on the farm, and when the family moved here in 1868 and settled six miles west from Monument, he came also and her has constantly been in operation with his father in the stock business. Uniform success has attained his efforts and he is one of the well-to-do stockmen of the county to-day. On November 19, 1876, he was married to Miss Lizzie Munkers, who is the daughter of Benjamin Munkers, of Linn county. Mr. Munkers was a pioneer of Linn county, Oregon, of 1846, where he still resides, but the mother, Marzella (Hester) Munkers, is now deceased. To bless the union, four children have been born as follows: Frederick M., Leo G., Delman R., and Bessie F. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios. Project in October 2005 by Diana Smith.
