WEATHERFORD One of the leading financial institutions of Linn county is the Harrisburg National Bank, at Harrisburg, of which R. L. Weatherford is vice-president. He has long been known as one of the leading and successful farmers of his section of the valley and as a citizen has been progressive and influential in affairs affecting the welfare of his locality. Born at Albany, Linn county, Oregon, in February, 1878, he is a son of J. K. and Annette (Cottel) Weatherford. His father was born in Missouri, from which state he came to Oregon, in 1864, settling in Albany, where he engaged in the practice of law. The mother was born in Linn county, Oregon, a daughter of Royal Cottel, who was a pioneer settler in this state, but moved to California in the early '50s. R. L. Weatherford was given a good education, attending the public schools and graduating from Albany College in 1898. From that time to the present he has given his attention to farming and is now operating his father's farm, in which he has been very successful. A man of energetic nature, sound judgment in practical affairs and up-to-date in his methods, he has long- been regarded as one of the leading agriculturists in this section of the county. He is now a director and vice-president of the Harrisburg National Bank, which was established in 1920 by J. R. Cartwright, R. W. Davis and V. C. Brock, with a capital stock of fifty thousand dollars. The bank owns the building which it occupies and has enjoyed very gratifying success and a steady growth in resources. The present officers are J. R. Cartwright, president; R. L. Weatherford, vice-president, and T. G. Cowgill, cashier. In 1899 Mr. Weatherford was united in marriage to Miss Erma Horning, of Corvallis, Oregon, who is a daughter of L. L. Horning, who came to Oregon in 1849. Mr. and Mrs. Weatherford have two children: Annette, who is a graduate of the Oregon Agricultural College and is now the wife of G. G. Cowgill, of Harrisburg; and James K., who is a graduate of the Oregon Agricultural College and is now a student in the law school of the University of Oregon. Mr. Weatherford is a member of Thurston Lodge, No. 28, A. F. & A. M., of which he is a past master; Bailey Chapter, R. A. M.; Temple Commandery, No. 3, K. T.; and El Kader Temple, A. A. 0. N. M. S., at Portland; and also of Albany Lodge, B. P. 0. E. He gives his political support to the democratic party and has shown a commendable interest in public affairs- He resides at Corvallis, where he has an attractive and comfortable home. By reason of his integrity and sterling character, he has long commanded the confidence of his fellowmen and is regarded as one of Linn county's representative citizens. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
