Removed to Missouri and practiced. Married Miss Fickels. Removed to Oregon, and in 1846-47 was a member of the Provisional Legislature. In 1851 was a member of the Territorial Legislature and Speaker of the House. From 1856 to 1859 was Register of the Oregon City Land Office. From 1859 to 1869 was judge of Washington County. Served a term in the State Legislature in 1862, and in the next year became clerk of the United States District Court at Portland.
