Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 2. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 110. ROBERT WILLIAM PRESCOTT Robert William Prescott, now actively engaged in the real estate business, has since becoming a resident of Eugene so impressed his personality on the people of this community as to gain a high place in their confidence and esteem. That this confidence has not been misplaced has been proven in a very emphatic way, for through all the years of his identification with this community he has consistently worked for the best interests of the city and county along material, civic and moral lines. In his special field of effort he has been a prominent factor in the city's development and at the same time has realized a fine measure of individual success. Mr. Prescott was born in Baker county, this state, on the 11th of August, 1884, and is a son of Edward and Elizabeth (Bunyan) Prescott, the former a native of Iowa and the latter of Illinois. In both paternal and maternal lines he is descended from pioneer stock, his grandfathers, J. P. Prescott and William Bunyan, having crossed the plains and settled in Oregon in the early 70s. Edward Prescott was for many years extensively engaged in the cattle business and was later eastern Oregon agent for the Baker Telegram. He was an eye witness of the development of this state from a wilderness to its present prosperous condition and bore his full part in the stirring events of the early days. At the age of fourteen years he was six feet two inches in height, became a noted sharpshooter and gained considerable prominence as an Indian fighter. When past sixty years of age he enlisted in the Canadian army and served throughout the World war, declining the captaincy of his company. He took part in much severe fighting and was wounded and gassed. His death occurred in May, 1927. Robert W. Prescott attended the public schools of Baker county and then entered the University of Oregon, where he was graduated, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, in 1908. During the ensuing four years he served as private secretary to President Campbell, of the University, and then for eight years was professor of public speaking. In 1920 Mr. Prescott turned his attention to business affairs and began dealing in real estate in Eugene, in which he has attained a very gratifying measure of success. He specializes in handling city property and has shown great discrimination and sound judgment, being a good judge of values. He employs six people and his business has enjoyed a steady and substantial growth. In 1912 Mr. Prescott was united in marriage to Miss Florence Winifred Allen, of Portland, and to them have been torn three children, Robert William, Jr., born in 1914; Theodora, born in 1917; and Luella, born in 1926. Mr. Prescott is a Mason and a Knight of Pythias, has membership in the Kiwanis Club, the Eugene Country Club, and the Chamber of Commerce and belongs to the Realty Boards of Eugene and Portland. The republican party claims his allegiance and he keeps well informed on the great issues of the day, on which he holds well denned opinions. He is a man of quiet and unassuming manner, but is cordial and friendly in his social relations and has a host of warm and loyal friends throughout this community. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
