Durham, of Washington county, Oregon, is a native son of Oregon, born at Oswego, October 30, 1854. He is the son of Mr. Alonzo Durham, an honored Oregon pioneer of 1847. Our subject was the youngest of the family of five children and was reared at Oswego until his ninth year, and then moved with his father to his present location, where he has since continually resided. He received his education at the high school in Portland and at the Pacific University at Forest Grove. Since leaving his books he has been engaged in the manufacture of flour and lumber, owning both a flour and saw mill. Bryant, a native of Clackamas county, born January 27, 1859, the daughter of C.W. Bryant, a pioneer of 1852. Mr. and Mrs. Durham have two children, Walter A. and Ethel. Our subject has been an active Republican since he has been a voter, and in 1890 he was nominated by his party for the State Legislature, and in due time received an election. During his first term he belonged to the Committees on Corporations and Indian affairs, and in 1892 he was again elected, showing that he had served his constituents faithfully and received their approval. Mr. Durham is an active member of the A.O.U.W. and has filled the most of its offices; is now Past Master and for seven years has been a member of the Grand Lodge and is now Financier of his subordinate lodge. Our subject and his wife are fine representative people among the native Oregonians and are most highly esteemed.
