Clark, Robert Carlton, Ph.D. "History of the Willamette Valley Oregon." Vol. 3. Chicago: Chapman Publishing Company, 1927. p. 264. SAMUEL M. EARLE Samuel M. Earle has steadily mounted the steep ladder which leads to success and is now a forceful personality in real estate circles of Salem. A native of Scotland, he was born in 1881 and is a son of Thomas and Marion (Masten) Earle, both now deceased. He received a public school education and also attended a business college. When a young man of twenty-eight he severed home ties and sought the opportunities of the west. He arrived in Great Falls, Montana, in 1909 and decided to locate in Carter, where he engaged in merchandising for ten years. Prosperity attended his efforts and in 1920 he felt the need of a wider field of activity. Two years were spent in Seattle, Washington, and during 1922-23 he conducted a meat market in Portland, Oregon, also handling groceries. He then went to Canada and for two years made his home in Vancouver, British Columbia, owning a chain of grocery stores in that city. In 1925 he returned to Oregon, locating in Salem, and in 1926 formed a partnership with William L. Gaskill. They have since been associated under the firm style of Gaskill & Earle, realtors, whose office is situated at No. 166 South Liberty street. Their advice in regard to investments of this nature is sound and reliable and a rapidly growing business is evidence of their ability and prestige. Mr. Earle has acquired several desirable pieces of city property and also owns some productive ranches which are devoted to general farming-. In 1910 Mr. Earle .married Miss Margaret McBean, also a native of Scotland, and they now have a family of seven children: Katherine, Allan, Samuel, Thomas, James, Marion and Margaret. Mr. Earle belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and the Salem Realty Board. He is a Royal Arch Mason and exercises his right of franchise in support of the platform and candidates of the democratic party. He has thoroughly allied his interests with those of Salem and the sterling attributes of the Scotch race have won for him the unqualified respect of his fellow citizens. ******************* Submitted to the Oregon Bios.
