He was born in Frankfort, Ohio, October, 1833; was employed in Oregon City, first as clerk in a store, and afterwards as compositor in the printing offices of the "Spector" and "Argus" newspapers. He studied law in 1855, and was admitted to the bar in the following year: in 1857 he ran on the Republican ticket for the Legislature. Subsequently he held the offices of city attorney, recorder, and treasurer of Oregon City, which has been his home for nearly forty years. Was elected district attorney in 1862, and State Senator four years after. is a strong advocate for schools, and equally active in forwarding religious enterprises. His time is mainly taken up with the profession of the law. Mr. Johnson married Josephine Devore, December 25, 1868, and they have four children -- Balfe D., Nello D., M.
