Ernest C Bloomquist Was born in Calumet, Mich. (among the copper mines), Feb. 20, 1879, but moved with his parents to Duluth, Minn., in 1882. Speaking of his childhood days, he says he grew up in a simple but Christian home, and was there introduced to the great Biblical authors and commentators of the Lutheran Church, Fjellstedt, Nohrborg, Rosenius, Ahlberg, Roos, Harms, and others. In this home he spent the long winter evenings at the organ and with the imperishable chorals and hymns of the Christian Church. At thirteen he became organist of his home church, and when he was fourteen he sang also in the great Jubilee Chorus, of 1893, in commemoration of ìUppsala moteî in Sweden. After finishing public school, he entered Gustavus Adolphus College in St Peter, Minn., and graduated with honor in 1901. After having served the church at Holmes City, Minn., for one season, he enrolled in the Theological Seminary of Augustana College, at Rock Island, Ill. During his seminary course he was elected director of the Wennerberg, Male Chorus for the year 1904. His first pastorate was at Lynn, Mass., 1904-1908. in 1908 he represented the Swedish people of New England states and spoke for them at the reception to Prince Vilhelm of Sweden. Also conducted several bug united choruses during that time for celebration in Boston, with Marie Sundelius and Gustaf Holmquist as soloists. His second pastorate was in Portland, Conn., where he served the ìMother church of Connecticutî from 1908-1913, there succeeding the poet-preacher, Ludvig Holmes. He was for several years secetary of the Board of the Lutheran Immigrant Home in New York, and was also a member of the Board for Upsala College. After having accepted a call to the First Lutheran church in Tacoma, he began a pastorate there in August, 1913, and speaking of his work in that church he states that he has had a happy ministry, loves his people, and tried to bring them to the highest things in life. Since coming out to the coast he has been vice president of the Columbia Conference, and for two terms been vice president of the Lutheran Brotherhood of America. He is editor and publisher of Sions Bladet, and has done great deal of Bible work and lecturing along the whole Pacific coast, and is a member of Tacoma Board of Censors. RFev. Bloomquist was marrie din 1906 to Florence Lindgren of Moline, Ill., a very gifted and accomplishment woman.
