Merritt is one of Seattle's prominent attorneys and his residence in the city covers a period of seventeen years. He was born at Janesville, Wisconsin, September 9, 1870, a son of William H. and Maria (Noyes) Merritt, the former a native of Michigan and the latter of New Hampshire. The father's demise occurred at Seattle in April, 1919, but the mother is still living in this city. The public schools of his native state afforded Fred T. Merritt his early educational privileges and he afterward became a student at the University of Wisconsin. He studied Saw and practiced in Minneapolis until 1900, when he went to Alaska, where he remained for four years. He established his permanent home in Seattle in December, 1907, although he had previously visited the city in the year 1900. He is an able lawyer, with a wide knowledge of the principles of jurisprudence and careful analysis enables him correctly to apply his legal learning to the points at issue. He is now practicing as a member of the firm of Bogle, Merritt & Bogle, with offices in the Central building, and their professional standing is of the highest. At Minneapolis, Minnesota, on the 26th of June, 1895, Mr. Merritt was married to Miss Elizabeth Sherrill, a daughter of the Rev. John S. and Julia P. Sherrill. They have three children : Mildred L. and Fred S., both natives of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Ruth M., whose birth occurred in Seattle. All were educated in the public schools of this city. Mr. Merritt is a member of the Inglewood Country Club and the Rainier, College and Arctic Clubs and his fraternal connections are with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Modern Woodmen of America. His viewpoint of life is broad and he has firmly established himself in public regard as an astute lawyer and valued citizen.
