ISRAEL NELSON For eighteen years Israel Nelson has been a member of the Seattle bar and broad experience, constant study and natural aptitude, combined with thorough training, have brought him success and prominence in his chosen profession. He was born in Lindsborg, Kansas, August 17, 1880, a son of J. M. and Elizabeth (Anderson) Nelson, natives of Sweden, who came to the United States in the '60s, settling in Lindsborg, Kansas. For forty years J. M. Nelson's father has engaged in the hardware business there and at the age of seventy-two he is still active. As one of the pioneer business men of Lindsborg he is well known and highly respected. Israel Nelson attended the public schools of his native town and continued his education in Bethany College at Lindsborg, from which he won the A. B. degree in 1899. Later he enrolled as a student in the Yale Law School, and was graduated in 1904. He served his professional novitiate in New York city, and in May, 1905, came to Seattle, where he has since practiced. From 1911 to 1918 he was the law partner of Robert C. Saunders, late United States attorney at Seattle. He is thoroughly familiar with the principles of jurisprudence and his analytical powers and careful preparation of his cases have won him a liberal clientele. At Lindsborg, Kansas, on August 15, 1906, Mr. Nelson was married to Miss Esther M. Swenson, a member of a pioneer family of that locality. Her father settled in Lindsborg in 1865 and was the founder of the First National Bank of that place, serving as its president. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson have two children: Helen Clare, who was born in Seattle in 1908; and John Marshall, whose birth occurred in this city in 1914. His life has never been a self-centered one and he took the lead in organizing the Swedish Hospital, of which he is a director. He belongs to the Washington State Bar Association and enjoys the confidence and respect of his professional colleagues and the general public as well. He supports all worthy public enterprises and contributes his share toward the progress of the city of his choice.
