MOUNT, a capitalist of Cheney, was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, in 1819, a son of Samuel and Phoebe (Conklin) Mount, the former a native of Virginia, and the latter of New Jersey. The father was a merchant by occupation. Joseph S. was educated by private tutors in Pennsylvania. After completing his education he resided in Zanesville, Ohio, where he remained until 1840, and in that year embarked in the mercantile business in Painesville, that State. In 1880 Mr. Mount came West, to Cheney. Washington, where he opened a real-estate office, and has also held the position of City Treasurer. He is a capitalist, and one of the most prominent citizens of Cheney. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss J.N. Meyers, a native of Ohio. Politically, Mr. Mount is identified with the Republican party, and in 1886 he served as a delegate to the Territorial Convention.
