Hull, Lindley M., compiler and editor. "A History of Central Washington, Including the Famous Wenatchee, Entiat, Chelan and the Columbia Valleys." Spokane: Press of Shaw & Borden Co., 1929. p. 246. MICHAEL R. LEAHY who is a native of the Province of Quebec, Canada, and the son of Irish parents, first came to Washington Territory in 1884, stopping for a brief time at Sprague, thence going to the Foster Creek country, where he with three brothers in the course of time took up land, and prepared to grow up with the country. They developed their farms but made stock raising the principal industry. In the main this group of men prospered though they had their share of hardship. Our subject declares that he nearly lost his eyesight watching the clouds for indications of rain, which at times was much needed. Leahy Post office was established during the Harrison administration, and is situated back from the Columbia River about 15 miles. In 1892, Mr. Leahy returned to his home place in Canada, and in 1895, was married to Miss Mary V. Fortin, at Huntingdon, Quebec. One girl and four boys have been born to this union: Mary L., James E., Allen L., Lester A., and Lawrence E. Mr. and Mrs. Leahy take great interest in the pioneer history of Washington, especially of Chelan and Douglas counties. They have resided in the town of Wenatchee about five years. ******************* Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in June 2012 by Diana Smith.
