Hull, Lindley M., compiler and editor. "A History of Central Washington, Including the Famous Wenatchee, Entiat, Chelan and the Columbia Valleys." Spokane: Press of Shaw & Borden Co., 1929. p. 187. MR. and MRS. REUBEN BROWN deceased. This worthy couple, parents of N. N., R. A., and George W. Brown, came to Wenatchee and purchased a ten-acre orchard tract on South Mission Street in the year 1901. Their residence in Washington, however, dates from the year 1877, at which time they located on ranch property near Vancouver. Before coming to Washington, they had lived in Southern Indiana, and their ancestry for generations had lived in Virginia. They both belonged to the most sturdy and upright type of the pioneer. Through industry and thrift and the strictest integrity they acquired a competence. In the year 1916, they passed away within a few weeks of each other, both having reached the age of 85 years. Their lives fully exemplified the spirit and admonition found in Micah, fifth chapter, eighth verse: "He hath showed thee, oh man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God." ******************* Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in July 2011 by Diana Smith.
