An Illustrated History of the State of Washington, by Rev. H.K. Hines, D.D., The Lewis Publishing Co., Chicago, IL., 1893, pages 358-359 R. STEVENSON, of the grocery firm of Hull & Stevenson, of Cheney, was born in Canada in 1843, a son of John and Mary (Oldham) Stevenson, the former a native of Ireland and the latter of Canada. Our subject, the second of eight children, came to the United States in 1864, and two years afterward located in California, since which time he has remained on the Pacific Coast, engaged in farming, mining and various other callings. In 1879 he located on a farm in Cheney, Washington, and was actively engaged in agricultural pursuits there until 1891. In that year he purchased Mr. Brittain's interest in the grocery firm of Hull & Brittain. Mr. Stevenson is one of the most enterprising men in the thriving city of Cheney, and the firm of Hull & Stevenson have a large and profitable trade. He was married in 1878, to Miss A.M. Haire, a native of Canada. To this union have been born four children, only two of whom are now living: Harold, aged thirteen years; and Carrie, three years.
