Hull, Lindley M., compiler and editor. "A History of Central Washington, Including the Famous Wenatchee, Entiat, Chelan and the Columbia Valleys." Spokane: Press of Shaw & Borden Co., 1929. p. 414. STEPHEN KUNKLE In 1887, Mr. Kunkle who came from Pennsylvania, settled three miles above Orondo. He was a very quiet retiring man, and a bachelor. He studied plant life, and raised a great variety of vegetables that others had no time to experiment with. He produced many specimens of plants that were new and strange to many. Men and boys loved to visit his place for the pleasure and knowledge obtained, and to enjoy seeing his many pets. After many years he sold his homestead, and bought land above the Adam Thompson place, where he still lives in this year of 1926. ******************* Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in June 2009 by Diana Smith.
